Anyone have information on getting the SRTM files to work with Map Grid. These files work well with the Terrain Module but the only success I can get in Map Grid is with Planet data. Any clues?

Hi Pak Vic,

I have the same problem, the SRTM data does not work in the Map Grid module, it only works on the Network module (I mean to get the height data).

In the Map Grid module, I use the SRTM data just for backdrop/background (convert it to a geo-tiff format). So I can see nicely the terrain profile (where is the mountain/valey/river) complete with hill shading, by converting the SRTM data to a geo-tiff format then upload to the Map Grid module. But yes, we can not get the "height" data for the SRTM in the Map Grid module, maybe the SRTM format is not compatible yet with the Map Grid module.

I think I have post this issue on a previous thread.

Best Regards.
Antonius

Hi
The map grid uses fixed projections to display the network sites with both backdrops and elevations. The elevations must be in Odyssey-Planet format.
Thanks

Hi,

I use GlobalMapper to do this.
If you can find any kind of similar tool like this, maybe you can use it too.

Regards,
Antonius

The Global Mapper program can not read the SRTM files with HGT extension what can I do?

I want view those files(The maps) in the network module but I don?t know how to transform them to .tiff since Global Mapper can not do it.

Default Global Mapper

If you scroll down through the file type menu you will find .hgt files listed. Works fine for me thanks to Antonious.

Hi All,

I have found a way to use the SRTM for Map Grid Module (both Backdrop & Elevation).

- Backdrop: convert SRTM to GeoTIFF data, then import it
- Elevation: convert SRTM to ASCIIGrid (.asc) then convert to ESRI ASCIIGrid (.bil)

It works fine...

Thanks.
Regards,
Antonius

I have a question, what benefit would I get out of observing someting in the map grid module? I can convert data and import it but what will I gain? (Sorry for the uneducated question).

Also I read mention of other mapping softwares, how many programs would you say you use to assist in getting results from Pathloss?
